"Where the mind goes....

...the man follows" is one of the favorite sayings of a very popular Bible teacher.  It is actually a play on words from Proverbs:

Pro 23:6 Do not eat the bread of him who has an evil eye, nor desire his dainty foods;
Pro 23:7 for as he thinks in his heart, so is he; Eat and drink, he says to you, but his heart is not with you.

Controlling our thoughts can be so difficult.  We are human.  We live in a cold, heartless world where the Devil rules and people are dark and mean, hurt and miserable - for the most part.  We have jobs, we have school, we have families, we have bills to pay, we have groceries to buy, houses to maintain.  We have many, many responsibilities each and every day.  With those responsibilities can come worry and anxiety.  We allow ourselves to become victim to Satan's oldest trick...pervert our image of ourselves and who God says we are.  Who does God say we are?

1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for possession, so that you might speak of the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 1Pe 2:10 you who then were not a people, but now the people of God, those not pitied then, but now pitied.

We are:
  1. A chosen generation!
  2. A royal priesthood!
  3. A holy nation!
  4. A people for possession!
  5. A people that praise Him!
  6. A people called out of darkness!
  7. We are now the PEOPLE OF GOD!!
Hallelujah!  We are royalty!  We are chosen by the One True and Living God as His Own People!  What a humbling honor to receive such grace!

What else does the Word of God say about us:

Gal 4:5 that He might redeem those under Law, so that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenlies in Christ;
Eph 1:4 according as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,
Eph 1:5 having predestined us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,
  1. We are adopted sons and children of Jesus Christ!
  2. We were chosen before the foundation of the world
  3. We have been predestined to adoption.
We are also so loved:

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Joh 15:13 No one has greater love than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

Wow...God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die so we would be able to live eternally with Him.  And Jesus Christ was obedient to His Father to the point that He laid down His life!

For you.  For me.  For everyone that would believe in Him...

Nothing could say how much He cares for us more than the scriptures below from Matthew:

Mat 6:25 Therefore I say to you, Do not be anxious for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body, what you shall put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
Mat 6:26 Behold the birds of the air; for they sow not, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them; are you not much better than they are?
Mat 6:27 Which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature?
Mat 6:28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They do not toil, nor do they spin,
Mat 6:29 but I say to you that even Solomon in his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Mat 6:30 Therefore if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much rather clothe you, little-faiths?
Mat 6:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, With what shall we be clothed?
Mat 6:32 For the nations seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Mat 6:34 Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow; for tomorrow shall be anxious for its own things. Sufficient to the day is the evil of it.

If God provides for the birds of the air and the lillies grow because He causes them to grow, then how can He not care for us?  How can He not provide for us?  He can provide for us so much better than we can provide for ourselves.  When we worry, it is the same thing as telling God we do not believe what His Word says.  Worry begins in our minds.  Worry begins when we can't see the solution to the problem.  But...

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

It is not our job to see every solution to every problem.  It IS our job to grow the faith that God has given us at the point of our salvation. (See Luke 17:6)  We must know that God is true to His word.  His Word will not return void.  He does what He says He will do.  Every time.

When our minds wander and stray from what the Word of God says about who we are in Christ, then we allow the enemy to begin to mess with our thoughts and emotions.  We need to be careful and cautious in the thoughts we listen and what we take root in our minds.  How do we do that?  Well, we take thoughts captive.  What does that mean?
2Co 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not fleshly, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds,
2Co 10:5 pulling down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ;
So...how do we take every thought captive into the obedience of Christ?  We believe, we speak out loud and to the enemy what the Word of God says about us.  We fight the enemy with the Word of God.

When the thought comes into mind that we can't do something, when we don't have the strength we use:

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

When we feel as though we are nothing, that Satan says God has left us, we are nothing, not worthy of His time or thoughts...we can say with confidence and with victory:

I am a chosen generation!  I am a royal priesthood!  God loves me so much He sent His only Son to save ME!

We can praise God daily for what He says about us in His Word and the weapons He gave us to fight our enemy with.
